Dj V's musical journey began from a very early age. He has been surrounded by music his whole life. There has been a wide range of various sounds/bands and artists that have inspired dj V's passion and love for music.
One of the main ones being Bob Marley's music, message, and way of being. A trip to Glastonbury at age twelve, opened up his eyes to a world of music. V's discovery of Jungle/Drum'n'Bass began at the age of 14. A school friend gave him a tape with two tunes on it. They were, Leviticus (The Buriel) and Shy Fx. (Original Nutta) From there, V was hooked, he started listening to pirate stations and hunting out Mix tapes. A Mickey Finn set being the first mix he ever heard, which blew him away(1994-95) At Sixteen, V did a music production course in sheffield (Red Tape Studios) which taught him about midi and the ability to control sounds from a sampler, with a keyboard, via a computer. This taught him the very basis of computer generated music.
He was 18 when he got his first sequencer and sampler. (Atari 1020 st with cubase) He also got his first experience with turntables(Technics 1210's) and started to buy his own records around the same time. It would be nearly ten years later before Dj V got his own set of Technics and a semi proffesional studio set up. V got a lucky break at 19 with theDj'ing. He would blast DnB out whilst working in a fast food joint. Mc Moose's (Jungle Legend) brother (Derrick) would order food and always hear DnB. He spoke to V, and soon after, a tape was sorted. This led to Dj V's first warm up set and it was alongside Jumping Jack Frost, Mickey Finn, Brockie, Bryan G, Hype, Dett, Shabba and loads more. (LOCO - Club 144 - Charring Cross road-1998-1999) |
